The Transportation Business Line of AECOM is actively seeking a highly talented Mid-to-Senior Transportation and Environmental Planner to support our District of Columbia, Maryland and Virginia (DMV) Environmental Transportation Planning Market Sector. The focus of this position will be on executing and managing projects and expanding our overall environmental transportation planning practice in the areas of delivery of a variety of technical reports (resource-specific memoranda, alternatives analysis, early planning studies, etc.), environmental documents (National Environmental Policy Act (NEPA), agency coordination, and public outreach. Our Environmental Transportation Planning team is a truly multi-discipline practice focused on providing collaborative and integrated solutions to foster improved transportation investments and community benefit.
In this position, the appropriately qualified candidate will support the development of and management of environmental compliance documents, technical analysis, agency coordination, and public outreach. The applicant should be able to demonstrate relevant experience in the preparation of environmental documents including but not limited to National Environmental Policy Act (NEPA) documents, alternatives analysis and evaluation, development of purpose and need statements and a variety of technical reports. The position will be based in Richmond, Virginia and will report to the Environmental Transportation Planning Market Sector in the DMV. AECOM supports a hybrid work model, and remote candidates will be considered for this position. The candidate will work with local, regional and national transportation professionals within AECOM to execute projects and to support business development activities (i.e., proposal development, client marketing) working with federal, state and local transportation clients in the region and beyond, such as FRA, FTA, FHWA, DRPT, VDOT, MTA and local agencies.

Manage, plan, and lead projects and/or tasks varying in size and complexity
Lead and/or provide subject matter expertise
Work with the DMV Environmental Transportation Planning leadership team and area local and regional planning staff on development and execution of growth strategies and program management
Assist in proposal development process including team formulation, Statement of Qualifications, Technical Proposals and Presentations
Establish relationships with both external and internal clients and customers, including other potential consultant team members and leadership experience with industry associations (WTS, APA, APTA, ASCE, ACEC)
Drive AECOM’s commitment to quality and client focus
Drive improved deliverable content and quality, innovative client solutions, and client focus
Mentor staff and support staff growth and development
Attend conferences and workshops to strengthen existing client relationships and establish new relationships; obtain an understanding of emerging technologies and market drivers
Strong emphasis will be placed on technical experience, high-quality deliverables, writing and communication skills, ethical behavior, and ability to manage projects and project teams on budget and schedule. The appropriately qualified applicant will be able to demonstrate an established career in environmental and transportation planning with multimodal experience for a variety of transportation planning projects.
Qualifications
Minimum:
Bachelor’s degree in planning or related discipline
6 years of related experience in the environmental and transportation planning field or demonstrated equivalency of experience and/or education
Relevant experience in developing NEPA documentation and related technical studies
Knowledge of federal environmental regulatory requirements, such as Section 106 of the NHPA, Section 404 of the Clean Water Act, Section 7 of the Endangered Species Act
Experience in developing Section 4(f) documentation and analysis
Experience in conducting socioeconomic analysis and analysis
Experience in supporting grant development
Knowledge and experience with local and federal funding and project development requirements
Experience with public agency coordination
Experience in developing materials for and participating in public involvement activities
Experience collaborating across disciplines and business lines for integrated delivery and growth
Experience and proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and other relevant software programs.
Valid U.S Driver's License and as a condition of employment, must pass AECOM's Motor Vehicle Records Review
Preferred:
Experience developing relationships with federal clients, particularly within the USDOT (FRA, FTA, FHWA)
Experienced in project management and task management, including the development of scopes of work, budgets, and schedules
Experience in proposal preparation and business development
Experience in implementing quality assurance and quality control activities
Ability to interact regularly and professionally with senior management and technical staff in other offices on business and project execution.
Experience in developing and nurturing relationships with key clients
License and/or registration of professional engineer or planner
Demonstrated team-building ability and internal/external networking skills and experience

Offered compensation will be based on location and individual qualifications. The expected range is $100,000.00 - $140,000.00.
