Job Description
AECOM is seeking a Sediment Remediation Engineer candidate to work in our environmental remediation practice in Chelmsford MA. This role is ideal for an engineer who has foundational experience in sediment remediation projects and is looking to further develop their technical and project management skills.
The ideal candidate will assist in site investigations, remedial design, and implementation for sediment remediation projects in aquatic and terrestrial environments. As a Sediment Remediation Engineer, you will work closely with senior engineers and project managers to support the successful completion of remediation projects.
The selected candidate will gain valuable experience and training while contributing to site investigations, design efforts, and remediation implementation for sediment contamination projects under CERCLA and other regulatory frameworks. We offer flexibility for the selected individual to report to any of our U.S. offices.
The job responsibilities for the position will include but are not limited to:
Sediment Site Investigations: Assist in conducting sediment site investigations, including field data collection (sediment sampling), site assessments, and contamination evaluations. Help interpret data and contribute to the preparation of technical reports outlining findings.
Remedial Design Support: Support the development of sediment remediation plans under the guidance of senior engineers. Assist in designing remediation strategies such as dredging, capping, in-situ treatment, and stabilization for contaminated sediment sites.
Regulatory Compliance & Documentation: Assist with the preparation of reports, presentations, and regulatory documents required for regulatory compliance and permitting. Ensure that remedial designs and activities comply with federal, state, and local environmental regulations.
Project Coordination & Fieldwork Support: Help coordinate fieldwork and other project activities to support sediment remediation efforts. Assist in scheduling, planning, and tracking project progress to ensure adherence to timelines and budgets.
Client & Stakeholder Interaction: Provide updates to clients and regulatory agencies regarding project status. Assist in addressing client questions and coordinating regulatory approvals and permits as needed.
Health & Safety Compliance: Support the development and implementation of Health and Safety Plans (HASPs) for field projects. Ensure all field activities comply with health and safety standards and best practices.
Post-Remediation Monitoring: Assist with post-remediation site monitoring, including collecting data and preparing monitoring reports to assess the effectiveness of remediation measures.
Qualifications
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
- BA/BS in Civil Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Environmental Engineering or related field + 4 years of related experience or demonstrated equivalency of experience and/or education
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
Masters' Degree in Civil Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Environmental Engineering or related field
5+ years of experience in environmental investigations and site remediation
Experience with CERCLA (Comprehensive Environmental Response, Compensation, and Liability Act) projects is highly desirable.
Knowledge of common sediment remediation technologies (e.g., dredging, capping, in-situ treatments) and environmental monitoring techniques.
Strong understanding of sediment contamination assessments, site investigations, and sediment remediation strategies.
Familiarity with environmental regulations (e.g., RCRA, Clean Water Act) and their application in sediment remediation projects.
Professional Engineer (PE) or related certifications.
Project Management Professional (PMP) or related project management certification.
HAZWOPER (40-hour) certification or similar health and safety training.
Experience with site investigations projects in river, lake, marine, or terrestrial environments.
Understanding of traditional and innovative sediment remediation technologies including supporting regulatory compliance efforts, including permit applications and report preparation.
Field experience in sediment sampling, field data collection, or laboratory analysis as well as basic environmental modeling or project management software.

Offered compensation will be based on location and individual qualifications. The expected range is $95,000.00 - $125,000.00.
