Job Description

AECOM is actively seeking a talented experienced professional to work with the AECOM East Region, Mid-Atlantic Environmental Planning and Permitting (EPP) National Environmental Policy Act (NEPA), team. The successful applicant will join an Environmental Planning team and work with Environmental Planners in a collegial, intellectually stimulating environment that fosters professional development. The successful applicant will join a network of existing AECOM EPP specialists across the US and will have the resources of more than 3,500 environmental planning and natural resources staff available in project delivery. We will consider excellent candidates in our Arlington, Virginia office.

This position will provide NEPA compliance, natural resources management, and environmental program leadership and support to Federal agencies and other public and private sector clients. The qualified candidate will have worked on and managed small to large environmental projects of varying size across an array of geographies. He or she will have knowledge and experience relevant to environmental planning such as that related to applicable laws and regulations, client organizations and missions, technical and cost proposals, contracts, and project management concepts or principles.

The candidate will work as part of multidisciplinary teams that support the preparation of NEPA and other planning studies and reports. Specific job responsibilities may include, but are not limited to, the following:

  • Provide technical support to the EPP Department and individual Project Managers and support inter-disciplinary business development activities (cultural resources, natural resources and NEPA services).

  • Coordinate, manage/support, and direct project teams including field and data collection efforts.

  • Manage/Support and perform tasks to scope, schedule, and budget, learning and applying AECOM’s project management principals.

  • Serve/support as an interface with clients and regulatory personnel on projects and tasks.

  • Develop, manage/support, and deliver business strategy and tactics, high-quality proposals, interdisciplinary teams, and documents and report deliverables.

  • Proactively enforce a culture of producing high-quality work and the importance of health & safety within the team.

  • Collaborate with other AECOM offices and the nationwide EPP Practice.

  • Serve as a mentor to junior staff.

  • Perform client visits and field activities that require work outside the office and overnight travel.

  • Utilizes scientific principles, theories, practices and existing technologies to develop technical solutions to a wide range of difficult problems.

  • Requires general familiarity within a broad field of scientific knowledge of reciprocal effects of the work upon other disciplines/fields.

  • Interprets and records data, conducts analyses, compares findings to relevant studies and local, state, and federal regulations to ensure compliance.

  • Works under only general direction. Independently determines and develops approach to solutions.

  • Conducts analysis and investigation work obtained from a variety of sources.

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications

  • BA/BS + 4 years of experience or demonstrated equivalency of experience and/or education.

  • Degree in environmental science, biology, ecology, natural resources, planning, or an earth science-related field.

  • Minimum of 4 years related experience.

  • Valid Driver’s License and as a condition of employment must be able to pass AECOM’s Motor Vehicle Records review

  • Due to the nature of work, US Citizenship is required

Preferred Qualifications

  • 8+ years industry experience providing NEPA and/or related environmental planning, experience with Federal agencies

  • Master’s degree or PhD in relevant field

  • Active Security Clearance

  • In-depth working knowledge of word-processing and integrated software applications, including MS Word, Excel, and Power Point; working knowledge of GIS and MS Project

  • Time and organization management skills to prioritize/perform multiple, detail-oriented tasks

  • Advanced technical report writing and communication skills (oral and written)

  • Self-motivated with ability to work independently and in a collaborative team environment

  • Professional certification(s) (e.g., AICP, CEP, PMP, CWB, PWS, PE, etc.)

Offered compensation will be based on location and individual qualifications. The expected range is $66,000.00 - $85,000.00.
